Our Founder's Story
“I can actually walk comfortably again!”
That was how it all began.
In 2020, my grandma — once an active, joyful woman — became depressed because of something so simple yet painful: ill-fitting shoes. After more than 70 years of wearing uncomfortable footwear, even walking became a luxury. Seeing her lose the freedom she once loved broke my heart.
I searched everywhere for a pair of shoes that were light, had a wide toe box for her swollen feet, breathable materials to prevent blisters, and a zero-drop sole to reduce the risk of falling. But to my surprise, the market couldn’t meet those needs. I soon realized that many others were facing the same struggle.
It was a difficult journey to create something that almost sounded too good to be true. During my travels in Japan, I was inspired by how many elderly people walked freely and comfortably through the streets. Curious, I began to explore their secret — and discovered that recovery could happen naturally through daily life, even through something as simple as a well-crafted pair of shoes.
That’s why I created Oobend, inspired by Japanese craftsmanship and guided by my background in medicine — combining comfort technology and thoughtful design to help the body recover naturally with every step.
I’m truly grateful to be part of your recovery journey, just as I’ve been part of my grandma’s. She once again became an active woman and gradually recovered from blisters, fatigue, and swelling — all simply by wearing a good pair of shoes.
My journey is still ongoing. Every day, I strive to make Oobend shoes better — softer, more supportive, more healing — for everyone who dreams of walking comfortably again.
And I sincerely hope that one day, you too will be able to say, with a full heart,
“I can actually walk comfortably again!”
